Addressing issues regarding parents with mental health and/or substance abuse issues during the
divorce process and after.This seminar will address the following
topics:

Criteria for emergency hearings and getting court ordered psychological evaluations and
family assessments from the Bench

• Judicial perspective on hearings and evaluations

Crafting Parenting Plans to address issues when substance abuse or mental health issues exist

• Creative time-sharing plans
• Safety focused parenting plans
• Highly structured parenting plans
• Communications issues and tools such as Talking Parents and Our Family Wizard
• Monitoring programs such as alcohol and drug testing and supervised time-sharing such as Sober Link
• Pinellas County programs to assist families

Involvement, Purpose and Attorney Interaction with Third Party Facilitators (GAL, Parenting Coordinators,
Custodial Evaluators)

• Panel discussion on using third party facilitators
• Purpose of each third party facilitator
• Allowable attorney/3rd party facilitator communications
• Admissibility of 3rd party facilitators’ testimony
• Questions from lawyers and issues from the 3rd Party facilitators themselves
