Welcome to the St. Pete Bar's Lawyer Referral Service (LRS)
The St. Pete Bar's LRS serves southern Pinellas County, is a public service of the nonprofit St. Petersburg Bar Association, and has been authorized by The Florida Bar. Each year the LRS responds to thousands of callers, referring them to attorneys with experience in the appropriate area of law or to area agencies able to provide assistance.
All attorneys on our LRS are in good standing with The Florida Bar and are required to carry professional liability insurance. If you'd like to obtain a referral to an attorney through our service, please contact us during business hours, Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at 727-821-5450.
What does it cost?
Through the LRS, you can obtain a 30-minute consultation at the office of an attorney who practices in your area of need for $50.00. The fee is charged to help with the cost of running the LRS; it is not paid to the attorney. There is no fee for bankruptcy, malpractice, personal injury, social security, and workers' compensation cases. Our service can also provide referrals to social service agencies when appropriate. Please be aware that the LRS does not have attorneys on staff to answer legal questions, nor can our office provide lists of attorneys' names.
What areas of law are covered?
Our Lawyer Referral Service can refer callers to almost any area of law. We make referrals in all areas of personal injury, including auto accidents, medical malpractice, and products liability. We also make referrals in the areas of bankruptcy, business, civil rights, consumer, creditor/debtor, criminal defense, employment, estate planning/probate, family law, landlord/tenant, real estate, workers' compensation, and others.
How does the LRS work?
Our staff will obtain specific information from you regarding your legal problem and will then refer you to an attorney suited to your needs. Your initial consultation with an attorney through the Lawyer Referral Service will help you determine whether you need to hire a lawyer, the approximate cost for the services of the lawyer, and an estimate of approximately how long it will take to resolve your legal matter.
Please use your consultation wisely and prepare all of your questions in advance to make sure that you cover all of your concerns. After your initial 30-minute consultation, should you decide to retain the attorney, additional fees would be agreed upon between you and the attorney.
For more information please contact us during business hours, Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at 727-821-5450.
We will require you to provide us with some basic information. This is for our files only. We need your name so we can let the attorney know to expect your call. We need your address so we may send you a survey asking you to rate the quality of our service. You will not receive any other mailings from us. Your information is not given to any other organizations.
- All information will be kept confidential and will be provided only to the attorney to whom your case is referred.
- We do not provide lists of attorneys.
- LRS attorneys provide the first half-hour consultation FREE. The $50 Referral Fee helps to underwrite the cost of providing the service.
- You should discuss legal fees during your consultation and obtain a written fee agreement if you hire the attorney.
- We do not make referrals to "experts" or "specialists." The members of the LRS are competent to handle the area of law you request. You should ask about their level of experience.
The hiring of a lawyer is an important decision. Before you decide to hire the lawyer to whom you are referred, ask that lawyer for written information about that lawyer's qualifications and experience.
