Monks are sometimes called "professional listeners,” the English word "obedience” – one of their professed vows – comes from the Latin, "to listen deeply.”

Curtis was ordained a monk more than 25 years ago. He resides at the Monastery of St. John the Evangelist in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In his earlier life he worked in international development and as a parish priest. Brother Almquist's academic background is in developmental psychology and theology. He works with leaders, from a wide spectrum of professional disciplines, helping them listen and respond to the amazing gift of life.
