This program is offered FREE to train pro bono and legal aid attorneys how to prepare for and present a guardian advocacy case. Agree to assist a sponsoring legal aid entity with a guardian advocacy case and register for free. The course is also offered at a reasonable cost for those unable to pledge their time. Steve Hitchcock, Esq., of Special Needs Lawyers, P.A., Clearwater; Michael W. Porter, Esq., M. W. Porter Law Firm, St. Petersburg; and Hon. Sean O. Cadigan, General Magistrate, 13th Judicial Circuit, Probate Division, are well-qualified to present this thorough and detail-oriented seminar.

8:50‐9am Welcome & Introductions - Mr. Hitchcock

9:00‐9:50am What is guardian advocacy? Who qualifies? When is guardian advocacy appropriate? - Mr. Hitchcock

10‐10:50am Ethical representation in a guardian advocacy case? Who is your client? ‐ Mr. Porter

11‐11:50am A‐Z forms and pleadings needed to prepare a guardian advocacy case. - Mr. Hitchcock

Noon‐1pm LUNCH SPEAKER - Court Preferences & Requirements - Magistrate Cadigan

1‐1:50pm Mock Hearing: Experience a walk-through of the hearing process and presentation of evidence.

Then learn about the guardian advocate’s post appointment documentation, reports, authority

2:00‐2:50pm  County Specific Issues & Requirements and Q&A - Mr. Porter and Mr. Hitchcock

• $40 full-time legal aid attorney

• $100 member or staff of member of any regional bar association (Clearwater, St. Pete, West Pasco, Manatee, Sarasota)

• $150 all others
