CLE: Civil Commitment:
Incompetency, Insanity,
and Baker Acts

This course will discuss Florida Statutes and case law to educate lawyers
on the legal status of individuals affected by mental illness issues resulting
in civil commitment due to incompetency, insanity, or Baker Act holds.
Additionally, predicate questions will be provided for folks to consider in the
courtroom as they present testimony to establish or
counter the need for civil commitment.

In particular, this program will teach key conversations as part of the initial consult with a prospective
client and how to engage the prospect so they are retained as a client. Each participant will be able
to identify their natural style and the style of a prospect in order to adapt their communication and
enhance their rapport building. This information can be used to grow their practice by retaining more clients.
